Jane Austen's novels have created a world of complex characters that have been the subject of ongoing personality assessment for centuries. While more avant garde in the contemporary society, Austen's particular focus on the thoughts and feelings of women (and men) provides a wellspring for personality analysis across a wide variety of types. That being said, it is difficult to judge many of Jane Austen's characters through a modern lens, particularly the more well-to-do ones, given the dearth of actual work being done and the prevalence of servants to do a lot of the mundane tasks that might aid in analysis. I will be analyzing characters solely from their portrayals in film, as I have not read any of the books.
