A mainstay of female fantasy the world over, Mr. Darcy represents the peak of civilized masculinity in an altogether less civilized modern age. The climax of the films is the unraveling of mystery behind Mr. Darcy's hostility toward certain characters and associations presented throughout. There are a great many pages across the internet devoted to the analysis and debate of Mr. Darcy's personality type. My conclusion is that Darcy is an INTJ.
Anyone who has read or watched P&P will come to the same conclusion on whether Mr. Darcy is an introvert or extravert. He sums it up himself (I do not remember the exact quote from the movie but here is the line from the book): “I certainly have not that talent which some people possess, of conversing easily with those I have never seen before. I cannot catch their tone of conversation, or appear interested in their concerns, as I have often seen done.” Darcy is brutally shy and reserved, he rarely speaks, and he prefers to observe the activities rather than engage directly in them, unless he feels compelled to.
This one is likely to ruffle some feathers. Many people categorize Darcy as Intuitive, without providing concrete explanations or examples. First, Darcy is constantly collecting information from his surroundings. He spends almost all of his time, when in the presence of others, observing and adding to the stockpile of data he has on each person. Second, he is very traditional and values the importance of "proper" marriages and societal expectations. Third, he focuses a great deal on the past (the history with his sister, the ordeals with the Bennet family, and his interactions with Wickham) than on the future.
Darcy struggles to understand and interpret his feelings. Only when he externalizes them through letters to Elizabeth is Darcy able to work them out. His lack of emotional intelligence is prominent in his many social interactions, and his ability to put connection and propriety above his friend's feelings displays his bias towards logic above all else.
"My opinion once lost, is lost forever." Like his introversion, most people who watch the films would agree that Darcy leans more towards the Judging side of the MBTI personality.
